Mikhaïl Bezverkhny & Steve Lacy

Mikhaïl Bezverkhny first played with his wife some "serious" music, including Jules Massenet's La Méditation de Thaïs, followed by a not-so-serious american rag. Then he played a very inspired and personal interpretation of two Practitioners compositions, that convinced me of the necessity of recording the entire book P (and W, as well) — for the moment, just the first one has been published (Hocus-Pocus). An album for the Senators?

This "set" ended with a free improvisation in duo, where the violonist often picked some ideas from Steve's never drying up musical flow. A rather original music emerged when he played a classical melody line behind Steve's polyfree jazz.
