"When I first saw the paintings of Mark Rothko, back in the 50's, they seemed to me like giant, spiritual, colored "flakes". Later, in 1970, I wrote this piece which is about another kind of flakes, the little ones that form on the blades of ice skaters (a flake is a flake)."
